Watch CA Crews Tackle 4-Alarm Housing Site Fire
At least one worker was hurt and more than 50 units were destroyed by a four-alarm fire that tore through an under-construction condominium complex Friday in California's Silicon Valley.
The blaze broke out at about 11 a.m. in Santa Clara, and dozens of firefighters battled burning debris, as well as massive flames and blistering heat, from the housing site, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Crews also were helped by favorable weather conditions that help the fire from spreading.
“We are fortunate today that there is not a lot of wind, so all of that intense heat and smoke is going straight up in the air, and that’s helping the firefighting effort,” Santa Clara County Fire Chief Bill Kelly said.
The construction worker became injured trying to flee the fire, and he was taken to the hospital, according to the TV station.
