More than Half of Seattle's FFs Tackle 3-Alarm Blaze

Crews evacuated several shops and business and urged residents to keep windows closed after a "strip mall-like structure" caught fire Monday.

More than half of Seattle's firefighters responded to a three-alarm fire that erupted at a "strip mall-like structure Monday.

A firefighter suffered minor injuries battling the blaze in the city's Ballard neighborhood, KING-TV reports. The fire had about 65 percent of the Seattle Fire Department at the scene.

Crews needed to cut holes in the roof in order to vent toxic smoke and gas. Several shops and businesses in the building were evacuated, and neighborhood residents were told to close their windows because of the thick smoke, KING added.
