More than 15 PA Fire Companies Battle 2-Alarm House Blaze

Before fire crews arrived, three residents were able to make it out of the burning three-story rowhouse in Darby, including two people who escaped the flames by jumping out a second-story window.

Crews from at least 15 different Pennsylvania fire companies battled a two-alarm blaze that destroyed a rowhouse early Thursday.

Three people were able to escape the burning three-story building in Darby before firefighters reached the scene shortly after 5 a.m., KYW-TV reports. A fire alarm rousted one resident, who found himself surrounded by flames when he woke, and two others were forced to leap from a second-floor window.

By the time firefighters arrived, the blaze had torn through the first and second floors, and flames could be seen erupting from a third-floor window. Crews, though, were able to contain the fire and kept it from reaching nearby rowhouses, according to KYW.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire, KYW added.
