Firefighters from multiple Massachusetts departments and a state task force worked Monday night and into Tuesday afternoon to put out a multi-alarm lumber yard blaze.
The fire broke out at West End Firewood in Northbridge, the MetroWest Daily News reports. Crews worked overnight to put out flames that had spread to four buildings and stacks of cordwood.
The state's Fire Mobilization Task Force was called in three times overnight and into the morning to help firefighters from Northbridge and Westborough. The last time crews from the task force were needed in the Merrimack Valley was in 2018 following a series of gas explosions.
Three buildings and two vehicles were destroyed in the blaze, which is under investigation. Into Tuesday, firefighters used two aerials to steadily douse the scene with water while excavators tried to expose burning wood throughout the lumber piles, the News added.
