California firefighters extinguished a suspicious blaze at an apparently shuttered church late Tuesday that caused around $15,000 in damage.
Oxnard crews responded to a fire that began shortly after 11:45 p.m. at the Abundant Life Center on East 2nd Street, the Ventura County Star reports. Investigators believe the blaze was intentionally set in the church's entry way, and the flames spread to an outside stairwell.
It took firefighters about an hour and 45 minutes to contain the blaze. No one was injured in the fire, and no suspects had been identified in connection with the arson, according to the Star.
The church had been closed after Abundant Life Ministries dissolved in March 2019, the news outlet added.
