Los Angeles County firefighters extinguished a three-alarm blaze that partially collapsed an El Monte strip mall late Thursday, according to the department.
The fire broke out just after 8 p.m. at the shopping center on East Valley Boulevard, KTLA-TV reports. When crews opened up some of the building's ceiling, they noticed pressurized smoke and pulled back into a defensive mode.
Eighty firefighters battled the blaze and used aerials to douse the building from above. Flames burned through at least five businesses and partially collapsed the building's roof.
Crews were able to control the fire by about 10 p.m. No one was injured in the blaze, according to KTLA.
