FL Crews Respond to Two Yacht Fires Less than a Mile Apart

"Each fire had over 50 firefighters on scene, in order to battle the blaze at each one," said a Fort Lauderdale battalion chief about the two yachts that caught fire early Saturday.

Florida firefighters responded to two separate yacht fires less than a mile apart early Saturday.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue received a call of a large yacht on fire at Lauderdale Marine Center shortly before 2 a.m., WPLG-TV reports. As crews were tackling the blaze on the Prince Ville, a 93-foot Benetti yacht, a call about another burning yacht came in.

"While we were battling that fire, a second fire came in located about a mile down the river from this one. And that was a 98-foot vessel," Battalion Chief Stephan Gollan told WPLG.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire that broke out on the Tiger's Eye, as well as the first yacht. No one was injured in either incident.

"Each fire had over 50 firefighters on scene, in order to battle the blaze at each one," Gollan told WPLG.

“Anytime that you have two large working fires in your municipality, it’s a challenge,” he added. “Thankfully the city of Fort Lauderdale is large enough, and we have enough units, were able to get initial units on scene to start the fire attack.”
