New Albany firefighters put out a blaze that investigators believe started in a nail salon and damaged several shops and businesses in a strip mall, creating plumes of smoke that were visible for miles.

Firefighters extinguished a blaze that ignited in a nail salon at a shopping center in southern Indiana on Tuesday.

The fire broke out at about 8:15 p.m. at a strip mall in New Albany, WHAS-TV reports. An employee at Sun Tan City called 9-1-1 after initially smelling smoke, according to WDRB-TV.

Investigators believe the blaze originated in Neon Nails, although what caused the spark hasn't been determined. Flames burned through a part of that business' roof.

Several shops were damaged by the blaze, with the rear of the building suffering the most of the damage. Crews were able to put out the blaze within an hour, and firefighters were able to stop the flames from destroying the entire shopping center.

No one was injured in the incident.
