Collapsing Ceiling During 2-Alarm Blaze Injures MD Firefighter
A Maryland firefighter was injured by falling debris from a collapsing ceiling during a two-alarm apartment blaze Thursday.
Crews responded to a fire at about 4 p.m.at the Bayshore Landing apartment complex in Annapolis, WMAR-TV reports. Firefighters worked for hours to put out the heavy flames, rescuing 10 dogs and a resident in a wheelchair.
“With how close it was to the woods even and how high it was on the roof I thought it could have easily spread much quicker if it wasn’t a big rainstorm that happened right at the perfect time," an apartment resident told WMAR. "It was like the saving grace honestly.”
Falling ceiling debris left an Anne Arundel County firefighter with minor injuries. The first responder was taken to the hospital to be evaluated, according to WJZ-TV.
The fire left 37 residents displaced, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.
