Florida firefighters put out a boat that caught fire following an explosion Saturday, seriously injuring two teens.
The explosion aboard the pontoon boat happened shortly before 9 a.m. at a Hernando Beach boat ramp, WTSP-TV reports. Five people were on the family vessel at the time of the incident.
Once at the scene, Hernando firefighters extinguished flames coming from the boat's outboard motor. The fire was stopped from spreading to other boats, and Division Fire Chief Kenneth Wannen told the Tampa Bay Times that an engine or fuel line issue could have caused the blast.
Two teens—16 and 15—were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital with serious burns. The teens mother and grandparents also were on the boat but refused medical treatment, the Times added.
