Four FDNY firefighters were among six people who suffered minor injuries in a large blaze that engulfed a three-story apartment building in the Williamsbridge section of the Bronx.

Four FDNY firefighters were among six people injured in a two-alarm blaze that broke out at a Bronx apartment building early Friday.

The fire started at about 3:40 a.m. in a residential building in the Williamsbridge neighborhood, WPIX-TV reports. When crews arrived, flames had engulfed the three-story structure.

“We were challenged with having to put out the fire in three floors and control the fire on the exterior of the building to make sure it didn’t go to the side, and we contained it to one building,” Deputy Chief Michael Gunning told News 12 the Bronx.

Four firefighters suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, according to WPIX. Two civilians also suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Crews had the blaze under control shortly before 4:50 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
