An FDNY firefighter was injured battling a residential blaze on Staten Island that also left a civilian injured Friday.

The fire broke out shortly after 9:40 a.m. at a seven-story apartment building in the Clifton neighborhood, the Staten Island Advance reports. Rescue Co. 5 had been participating in a 9/11 memorial ceremony at the company's facility in Concord when the blaze erupted.

Nearly 20 units of around 90 firefighters responded to the call. Officials believed the fire had started in a fifth-floor unit, and aerials were deployed as flames shot through upper-floor windows.

Details were not released about how the firefighter was injured, but the injuries were not considered life-threatening. The injured civilian also was expected to recover, and both were taken to area hospitals, according to the Advance.
