Twelve FDNY firefighters were injured during an intense five-alarm residential blaze late Saturday and early Sunday.
The fire broke out shortly before midnight at a home in the Dyker Heights section of Brooklyn, WABC-TV reports. More than 200 firefighters responded to the call at the three-story structure.
Crews needed to rescue several residents as the fire spread to a nearby home. An online update from the FDNY stated that 12 firefighters suffered injuries that weren't life-threatening.
During the blaze, flames engulfed a firefighter descending a ladder, and his burning turnout gear needed to be smothered to put them out, according to WABC.
