FDNY Crews Surprised by Falling Money During Fire

Sept. 26, 2020
While cutting through the ceiling of a burning Brooklyn home, FDNY firefighters discovered hidden bundles of cash that could be up to $1 million in insurance money.

FDNY firefighters were surprised by falling money while battling a residential blaze in Brooklyn Thursday.

Crews were at the scene of a home fire in the Flatlands section of Brooklyn shortly after 2 a.m., WCBS-TV reports

While working to put out the flames on the first floor, firefighters cut through the ceiling. That's when bundles of money fell out.

Because they were wrapped in bundles, the money was protected from the flames. An official amount for the cash hasn't been determined, but it's estimated that it could be as much as $1 million in insurance money.

One person was injured in the blaze. The cause of the fire is under investigation, WCBS added.
