Watch FDNY Crews Brave Burning Stairwell in Day Care Fire

An FDNY firefighter was overcome by smoke and taken to the hospital after battling a blaze at a Brooklyn day care center that had 12 units responding to put out the flames.

An FDNY firefighter was injured battling a blaze that broke out at a Brooklyn day care center early Sunday.

Twelve units with sixty firefighters responded at about 5:45 a.m. to the fire at Yeled V'Yalda Early Childhood Center after flames were seen on the building's fourth floor, WABC-TV reports. Crews needed to shatter windows to reach the blaze, and video from the scene shows firefighters moving through the building's stairwell as flames burn the upper floors.

Smoke overcame one firefighter, who suffered minor injuries, and was taken to the hospital. The fire was under control shortly after 6:30 a.m., according to the New York Post.

No civilians were hurt in the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
