FDNY Firefighters Rescue Three Children from Bronx Blaze

Sept. 28, 2020
"There was a ton of fire, a ton of heat and a lot of smoke," said one of the FDNY firefighters who helped save three children trapped inside a burning apartment building in the Bronx.

FDNY firefighters pulled three children from a burning apartment in the Bronx on Monday.

The fire broke out at about 9:30 a.m. on the second floor of a residential building in the Allerton section of the Bronx, WCBS-TV reports. Around 70 firefighters responded to the call.

“We had fire blowing out of every window on that second floor of the house," said FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Joseph Ferrante in an online update by the department

Three children were trapped inside the building, and members of FDNY's Ladder 32 did a search to locate them.

"Firefighter (Matthew) Boney and I met in the second bedroom where we saw the three kids on the bed," said Capt. Daniel McEnroe said. "We called it in, and Firefighter Boney grabbed the two and went, and I grabbed the third and followed him out. There was a ton of fire, a ton of heat, and a lot of smoke."

Once the children were out of the building, the EMS members were able to resuscitate them on the way to the hospital. The three children were listed in critical condition, according to WCBS.

"Our members performed advanced cardiac life support," Deputy Assistant Chief Paul Miano said. "It’s always more difficult when it’s children, but they are professionals, and they got to work.”

Crews were able to get the fire under control at around 10:10 a.m. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

"Everyone here did a great job. It makes me proud to be involved," McEnroe added.
