Watch OK Firefighters Tackle 3-Alarm Blaze at Vacant Church

Oklahoma City crews took a defensive approach to the large fire as flames engulfed the former church, which had been empty for years, and partially collapsed its roof and walls.

Oklahoma firefighters tackled a three-alarm blaze that engulfed a vacant church late Monday.

Crews responded to the fire at the empty building in northeast Oklahoma City at about 10 p.m., KFOR-TV reports. They were forced to take a defensive approach as the flames collapsed parts of the roof and walls.

After getting the blaze under control, firefighters made sure hotspots wouldn't reignite the debris inside the large structure. Two engines stayed at the scene overnight, with crews working on rotating shifts.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. The church had been vacant for years, and the building's utilities had been turned off for some time, according to KFOR.
