Las Vegas firefighters battled an intense two-alarm fire that destroyed a business and more than a dozen vehicles during rush hour Wednesday.
The fire erupted shortly after 4:30 p.m. at a large single-story auto repair shop, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department. A second alarm was called shortly after crews arrived at the scene.
Flames spread from the auto shop to at least 12 vehicles in the parking lot, the fire department said. Gasoline flowing from inside the business also caught fire, setting about four other vehicles on fire.
More than 75 firefighters with 30 pieces of equipment responded to the fire. Crews were able to get the bulk of the flames extinguished within 30 minutes.
Investigators determined that mechanics were removing a fuel tank from a vehicle, which caught fire, possibly because the tank was dropped. Workers used several fire extinguishers trying to extinguish the flames, but they were too intense, and the entire interior of the shop was on fire within minutes.
Two people suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and released.
The fire destroyed the auto shop and damaged and destroyed 16 vehicles. The cost of the damage was estimated at a $1 million.
