IL Firefighter Injured in Fatal Apartment Fire

One resident died during a fire that broke out at a Rockford apartment building that had recently reopened after a previous fire in July.

An Illinois firefighter was injured during a fatal residential fire Monday.

Rockford crews responded to the call at about 7:30 p.m. at an apartment building that caught fire, WTVO-TV reports. The complex recently reopened following a fire in July, and the fire kept to the rear of the building.

The fire claimed the life of one resident. The other residents were able to escape the flames.

A firefighter was injured battling the fire. The cause is under investigation.
