Flames engulfed a vacant warehouse and collapsed the building's roof as Newark firefighters battled a three-alarm fire at an industrial complex.

Around 90 firefighters battled a large fire at a New Jersey industrial complex as flames collapsed a vacant warehouse's roof early Tuesday.

The fire at the industrial site in Newark's South Ironbound neighborhood started shortly after 5:30 a.m., WPIX-TV reports. By the time crews reached the scene, flames had engulfed a three-story brick warehouse.

Initially, firefighters tried to get the fire under control from inside the building, but they had to fall back to an exterior attack after the warehouse became structurally unsound when the roof collapsed.

Flames from the warehouse fire also damaged a nearby building. Crews worked for nearly five hours at the scene and had the fire under control by about 10:15 a.m., according to WPIX.

No injuries were reported in the incident, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
