Video: NH Crews Tackle 4-Alarm Blaze at Historic Home

Firefighters from multiple departments responded to a large, challenging fire that erupted at a home in Concord that was built in 1880.

New Hampshire firefighters from multiple departments worked for hours to put out a four-alarm fire that tore through a historic home early Wednesday.

Concord crews responded to the residential blaze—the second-major fire for the department this week—just after 12:30 a.m., the department stated in an online update. Once at the scene, they encountered flames coming from the second floor deck and quickly spreading to the third floor and attic of the building, a home that was built in 1880 and later split into four separate units.

The house's age, as well as its size, created challenges for firefighters. Flames entered numerous void spaces between walls and floors, and the fire was raised to four alarms, which brought crews from nearly 20 communities to help with the blaze and cover other calls.

Five occupants in the building safely escaped on their own, and a Concord firefighter was able to rescue a cat. The blaze was under control just after 4 a.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
