Pennsylvania firefighters rescued a critically injured woman from a burning apartment building Wednesday.
The fire broke out shortly before 11 a.m. at a residential building in West View, WPIX-TV reports. Neighbors across the street saw flames and smoke coming from the apartment and called 9-1-1.
"All the neighbors were out screaming,” Toni Reed, a resident in a nearby building, told WPIX. “They ran down the front steps and out the front door. As soon as they got across the street the door exploded and the flames went upstairs.”
Once inside the building, firefighters found a woman in her kitchen on the first floor. She was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
“She was rescued," West View Police Lt. Matthew Holland told WPIX. "She was breathing at the time."
A firefighter was burned on his hands and had issues with smoke. He is expected to recover.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
