Over a dozen New York firefighters were injured in a large fire that tore through multiple residential buildings Sunday.
The fire started at about 4 p.m. when furniture in the back of one of the apartment buildings in Yonkers, WLNY-TV reports. Flames spread to four buildings and damaged 32 apartments.
“Because of the severe heat of 90 degrees today, it’s very labor-intensive, and we had a lot of problems with the heat,” Yonkers Deputy Chief Joseph Citrone told WLNY.
One civilian and 13 firefighters were injured in the fire. No details were released concerning the type of injuries, but they were said to be minor.
The fire destroyed two of the four buildings. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
