Two sisters from Maryland were killed in a raging house fire early Wednesday in Noyac.
Three other family members managed to get out of the house, according to The East Hampton Star.
"The father awakened to the sound of glass breaking and alerted the family to get out. The father and wife escaped the home, When they realized the children hadn't exited the home, the father attempted to gain entry back in; however, the flames prevented him from gaining access," Southhampton Town Police Lt. Susan Ralph told reporters.
Zachary Wiener, 23, jumped from a second-floor window to escape the flames. However, his sisters, Jillan, 21, and Lindsay, 19, were trapped.
Firefighters from North Sea, Southampton, East Hampton, Bridgehampton, and Sag Harbor found heavy fire. They located and removed the women from the house. They were pronounced dead at a local hospital, authorities said.
Lewis Wiener, 60, Alisa Wiener, 52, Zachary were transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. the paper reported.
The Maryland family was on vacation and had rented the home.
The investigation is being conducted by Southampton Town detectives, the town fire marshal's office, and the Suffolk County Arson Squad, according to reports.
Jillian was headed into her senior year at the University of Michigan and Lindsay was set to return to Tulane for her sophomore year this fall, according to NBC4.
