Aug. 7—Authorities are searching for a suspect accused of setting fire to a vacant apartment and two homes on the West Side.

The fires erupted at 12:45 p.m. Sunday in the 900 block of Southwest 36th Street, San Antonio Fire Chief Charles Hood said.

Firefighters found 14 units at a vacant two-story apartment engulfed in flames. Two homes were also ablaze. No one was injured in any of the fires.

"All of these appear to be human-caused," Hood said. "We do find points of origin at the other two residences."

The fire spread to a brush and fence that damaged another house and a large metal building, affecting five structures in total.

"With the high winds and heat, we're very fortunate we did not lose a block," Hood said.

Firefighters worked quickly to prevent the fire from spreading while extinguishing the blaze at the apartment.

Arson investigators are searching for a suspect, but they did not have a description as of Monday afternoon. Hood said there had been reports of homeless activity in the area as well as reports of vacant structures.
