May 4—The vacant, former Tucson Greyhound Park building in South Tucson burned early Saturday.

South Tucson firefighters were called to the fire at the two-story commercial building in the 2600 block of South Third Avenue around 3 a.m.

South Tucson Fire Captain Andy Luna said it took approximately 90 minutes for a team of 30 firefighters to put out the blaze, noting that the heavy fire conditions compromised the building quite quickly.

No one was injured during the call.

Ten hours after arriving, Luna and his crew remained on site, tired but determined to make sure every hot spot, smolder and flame was contained.

"It was a lot of flames," Luna said. "We'll be here a good part of the day."
