One person was killed and nearly two dozen were displaced after a fire broke out in a Braintree apartment complex on Thursday night, according to multiple reports.

The fire at the Braintree Village Apartments on McCusker Drive broke out around 10:30 p.m., WCVB-TV reported. Responding firefighters found one person dead inside and the rest of the residents made it out safely.

Arriving firefighters found light smoke emerging from the building, but as they made their way toward the area where the fire is believed to have started they found heavy flames, according to Boston 25 News.

A message left with Braintree acting Chief Fred Viola was not immediately answered Friday morning. The state fire marshal’s office also could not be reached to confirm the reports.
