Two Killed, Two Firefighters Hurt in Worcester, MA, House Fire

Two Worcester residents died in a house fire at 3 Hancock St. in Worcester Tuesday, according to officials.

Worcester Fire Department responded to the structure fire at approximately 11:30 p.m. on May 28, with reports of people trapped in the building, according to a release from the city manager’s office. The triple-decker building is off Main Street near Clark University and the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester.

Two residents were found on the first floor and were removed from the building by firefighters. The unidentified people were taken to a local hospital by Worcester EMS, according to the release.

Firefighters found the first floor had “heavy fire with conditions deteriorating” and began extinguishing the flames immediately, the release said.

The release said despite firefighters’ efforts, two residents died and two firefighters were taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

Four adults and three children are displaced, and the fire is under investigation.
