San Francisco firefighters assisted two people who lived in apartments above a hardware store.

A woman was transported for smoke inhalation, Capt. Justin Schorr told NBC reporters. .

The fire destroyed The Great Wall Hardware store that Albert Chow has operated since 1983.

Schorr said the cause remains under investigation.
