Victim Killed in San Carlos Park, FL, Blaze was a Firefighter

South Trail Firefighter/EMT Michael McCarty had been with the department since 2002.

The person killed in a house fire in San Carlos Park Wednesday has been identifed as a local firefighter.

South Trail Firefighter/EMT Michael McCarty's remains were found in the debris of the fire that remains under investigatin by the Lee County Sheriff's Office, KTFX reported. 

McCarty, who started with the department in 2002, also was employed with  Upper Captiva Fire.

In its condolences message, South Trail fire officials wrote: We also want to take this moment to emphasize the importance of mental health wellness, especially within the first responder community. We urge anyone who is struggling to reach out, and all of us to reach in to check on each other."
