Two people died, and one was left in critical condition after a house fire overnight in northwest suburban Streamwood, officials said.

Firefighters responded to the house located on North Green Meadows Boulevard Tuesday morning and removed three people from the home, including one with injuries, according to a post on social media from the Village of Streamwood Public Safety.

According to Fire Chief Mike Meyer, shortly after 1:15 a.m., firefighters responded to a structure fire where people were trapped on the 1200 block of North Green Meadows Boulevard. When the first engine arrived, firefighters found smoke showing from a two-story house. Fire crews made entry with a hose line to battle the blaze and search for victims, Meyer said in a press release.

A large fire was located and extinguished in the basement, and three people were found in the home. Paramedics preformed lifesaving measures on all three but two died from their injuries, Meyer said. One of the three was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, the release said.

The home was significantly damaged and a preliminary estimate of damage was about $150,000.

Several area fire departments helped battle the blaze. State fire marshals also responded to the scene and are investigating to determine the cause of the blaze. Investigators do not believe the fire was suspicious, the release said.
