Falmouth firefighters responded to an unusal call for assistance Thursday -- there was a small airplane stuck in the sand.

The pilot performed an emergency landing on Black Beach after it ran out of fuel, WCVB reported.

Crews realized quickly that in addition to freeing the plane, they had to get it to where it could take-off before high tide. Video captured the firefighters pushing it out of the surf.

Once back in the air, the pilot smiled and gave a thumbs-up to the helicopter crew that had been filming the incident.

It landed at the nearby airfield without incident.
