Sept. 22, 2025

Residents in a half-mile radius of north Sacramento were evacuated Monday morning after a train caught fire.

Sacramento firefighters called for additional manpower after they learned the burning railcar may spread to two others, a tank containing etheneol and another holding diesel, both explosive materials, KCRA reported.

The fire extended into some grass, six vehicles in a tow yard and a trailer containing lead-acid batteries. Power lines were damaged and about 1,859 residents lost power 3:05 a.m. It was restored a few hours later.

The cause is under investigation.
