Watch: FDNY Firefighters Battle 3-Alarm Fire in Vacant Building
A three-alarm fire early Sunday morning spread to an adjacent home in Queens.
Firefighters were called to the former soul food restaurant on Guy R. Brewer Blvd. in the Springfield Gardens neighborhood just after midnight and found fire on both floors of a two-story, wood-frame building.
“Members initiated an aggressive interior attack, but the fire was extending rapidly,” Deputy Assistant Chief Tim Keenan said. “It got into the walls and the cockloft, and eventually we had fire through the roof.”
Firefighters were pulled from the building as conditions worsened.
They set up two tower ladders to knock down the bulk of the fire.
Flames spread to an adjacent home, prompting a third-alarm response, according to QNS.com.
The fire was brought under control after three hours.
