The wife of a Phoenix firefighter pulled a driver from a vehicle as it began burning following a crash.

When she witnessed the accident in north Phoenix last month, Julie Read said the crisis training her husband shared with her during their marriage.

“Being able to step in and being able to handle anything that comes your way, I think is a key thing for fire wives and probably police wives too,” Julie Read told AZFamily.com.

Read said the car crashed into an SUV that was stopped next to her and the violent collision led to the car igniting while the driver was still inside.

She jumped into action and was able to get into the car and pull the driver out as flames spread.

“I think it was just kind of a surreal experience, just being able to see someone else’s hero at home step into that light and show up in the ways that I know that my husband has done, you know, for decades,” said Read.

She said her husband has taught her how to respond and react during an emergency during their two decades together.
