Pursuit Ends in Fiery Crash at Gas Station in Negaunee, MI

The suspect, wanted for a shooting in Marquette, suffered minor injuries.

MARQUETTE, MI – A shooting in Marquette on Tuesday led to a police chase that ended in a crash and fire at a gas station in Negaunee, police said.

At 9:14 p.m., the Marquette Police Department responded to a reported disturbance at an apartment on West Baraga Avenue, according to a news release. Inside the apartment, officers found a male victim with apparent gunshot wounds and a second male victim with minor injuries. The suspect had fled in a vehicle.

A description of the male suspect was sent to local law enforcement agencies with a request for assistance in locating him, Michigan State Police said in a news release.

MSP Negaunee Post troopers soon spotted the suspect, police said. Two troopers in fully marked patrol vehicles attempted traffic stops but the suspect fled, leading to a chase. The chase ended when the suspect crashed into fuel pumps, causing a large fire at Krist gas station, 341 U.S. 41 in Negaunee.

The suspect suffered minor injuries and was taken into custody; no members of the public or law enforcement were injured, police said.

The two victims and the suspect were transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said. All subjects involved were known to each other; no other details have been released.

The suspect will be lodged in Marquette County Jail and is expected to face multiple felony charges, police said.

U.S. 41 between Baldwin Avenue and Teal Lake Avenue was closed overnight while firefighters brought the blaze under control and troopers investigated the scene, police said. It reopened around 8:30 a.m.
