Playground Equipment Plant in West Norriton Township, PA, Destroyed by Four-Alarm Blaze
A company that makes playground equipment was destroyed by a four-alarm fire in West Norriton Township on Monday.
Jefferson Fire Chief Kenny Knauer told CBS Philadelphia that firefighters initially made an interior attack. But, they had to be evacuated when conditions took a turn.
Firefighters were forced to run lines for about a half mile as hydrants were insuffcient.
"The next step is we're having heavy excavators come in to pull the building apart so we can get to the hot spots...and actually get this fire contained and under control...It's pretty much becoming a surround and drown of soaking all the hot spots. But like I said, there is very combustible material in this building. It's all playground systems and everything else. So, it's going to take a little bit."
Neighbors said kids could come to Superior Play Systems building to play on the equipment and the website also said it hosted birthday parties.
Investigators from numerous agencies are working to determine the cause. No injuries were reported.
