Houston Air Monitored as Tires Burn at Recycling Center

The debris field was about the size of a football field, Houston Fire Chief Thomas Munoz said.

The air around a recycling facility is being monitored by Houston health officials after a massive fire that involved tires.

Firefighters continued to battle the three-alarm fire Tuesday moning, a day after it started. Thick, dark smoke filled the city sky.

Houston Fire Chief Thomas Muñoz told The Houston Chronicle the blaze is burning in a debris field roughly the size of a football field behind a warehouse at a recycling facilty.

No shelter-in-place orders were given.
