Historic Oakhurst, CA, Saloon Near Yosemite Demolished by Flames

A blaze destroyed the Snowline Saloon, a longtime gathering spot, near Yosemite National Park.

A fire destroyed a historic saloon in the Yosemite resort town of Oakhurst, authorities said.

Cal Fire crews were called to the Snowline Saloon, a longtime gathering place near Bass Lake, shortly before midnight Tuesday and found it engulfed in flames, authorities said. A video posted by Cal Fire showed the fire-gutted building at night.

Firefighters battled the blaze for roughly three hours and remained at the scene for about eight hours.

The saloon was built in 1960 with heavy wood framing and other materials that made the fire difficult to extinguish, according to Cal Fire spokesperson Mike Howk. Crews also worked to keep flames from spreading to the surrounding dry vegetation, which could have sparked a larger wildfire.

No one was inside the building, and no residents were injured. One firefighter received medical treatment because of the extreme heat, according to Howk.

The cause and point of origin remain under investigation.

The saloon has been popular for its live music, dancing, food and beer, and has developed a devoted following among tourists and locals. It had closed in late 2025 before reopening under new ownership in June.
