Authorities on Wednesday afternoon issued evacuation warnings in south El Dorado County where crews were battling a wildfire that started buring in the Coyoteville area.

The Coyote Fire had burned about 164 acres as of an update just before 5 p.m. after it was first reported at 2:16 p.m. Wednesday near Coyoteville Lane and Cedar Creek Road, according to Cal Fire.

By 6:50 p.m., Cal Fire reported the fire had burned 400 acres. Cal Fire aircraft and ground crews were attacking the blaze.

The wildfire started burning in a rural area several miles east of Highway 49 and southeast of Placerville. As of 4:30 p.m. the Cal Fire Amador-El Dorado Unit said the wildfire was burning at a moderate rate of spread.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation warning for the Somerset and Omo Ranch Road areas, from Omo Ranch Road to just south of Farnham Ridge Road near the Amador County line.

An evacuation warning means there is potential threat to life or property, and those who need additional time to evacuate and those with pets and livestock should leave now. It also means those in the area should be prepared to leave on a moment’s notice.

Sheriff’s officials said those who choose to evacuate should use Mt. Aukum Road. Authorities urged drivers to drive safely, as there are emergency responders in the area.
