Seven CAL FIRE Helitack Firefighters Hurt Battling Shasta County, CA, Wildfire
Several members of a CAL FIRE Vina Helitack crew were injured Saturday while fighting the Brook Fire.
A captain and six firefighters suffered minor to moderate burns during the operation on an incline. While six were released, one firefighter was transported from a hospital to a burn treatment center while the others were released.
"The safety of our personnel remains our highest priority. CAL FIRE is conducting a full review of the incident," agency officials wrote in a statement about the incident.
"As part of our commitment to learning and continual improvement, CAL FIRE deploys Serious Accident Review Teams (SARTs) to examine significant incidents, ensure compliance, and enhance safety across the department. These reviews are structured to be constructive, evidence based, and forward- looking, helping ensure that lessons learned are applied to improve protections for both our personnel and the public."
More than 650 firefighters are involved in the operation that is taking place in a remote, rocky terrain.
