On Sunday November 27, at 5:05 a.m. the Derrick City Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for an odor investigation at 140 Olean Road.
After investigating at the residence, units patrolled the area and found a working fire in a two-story residence at 166 Olean Road. The homeowners were not at home at the time of the fire.
Derrick City Fire Chief James Kelley immediately requested a full first alarm assignment followed by a request for a second alarm. In addition to a full response from Derrick City, mutual aid departments from Bradford City, Bradford Township, Rew, Otto Township, and Limestone and Knapp Creek, New York responded.
Firefighters used three one and three quarter inch attack lines and initially made an interior attack, but were forced out of the building due to structural concerns. An exterior defensive attack was utilized to extinguish the fire.
A tanker shuttle utilizing three tankers and a porta-pond was used to supply water for firefighting operations. Forty-five firefighters were on scene for approximately six hours. There were no injuries. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal Unit.
