On April 22, 2005, the Town of Southborough, Massachusetts had an extraordinary amount of fire and EMS calls. The first call was at 12:30 pm for a brushfire on Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation property off Acre Bridge Road.
The fire had been spotted by DCR's Sudbury Tower Observer. Car 20, Brush 24 and Car 30 were dispatched to the scene.
Strong winds advanced the fire and a box was struck for all available manpower. Mutual aid from Northborough, Massachusetts responded with Forestry 1 and Forestry 2. DCR District 14 fire responded with Tanker 14-8. Framingham fire was called in to cover the Southborough Headquarters.
Before the fire was contained five acres were burned. The staging officer out on the road at the 9/11 Memorial field noticed more smoke to the north, and apparatus was re-deployed to put that fire out which consumed two acres.
Hotspots and flare-ups resulted at the original fire with a shift in winds that resulted in responses from Ashland, with a forestry truck and Hopkinton, with an off-road tanker.
While fighting the brushfires a series of other calls were made to the fire department including a motor vehicle accident, small brushfire on Oak Hill road, two EMS calls with transport and a trash barrel fire outside of a strip mall.
As the Acre Bridge Road brushfires were extinguished and the apparatus returning, the following calls came in: Reported Kitchen fire on Turnpike Road which was contained to the stove area; An EMS call with transport.
