April 24th, Harlem-Roscoe Firefighters arrived at a South Beloit, Illinois farm to a large pole barn and a 2- car garage fully involved with fire.The outside of the 2- story home was just beginning to burn.
Harlem-Roscoe Fire Engine/ or Pumper 701, arrived first and Assistant Chief Ken O'Dell took command as Engineer Danny Gunderson set up 701 as the main attack truck. He quickly had water flowing to Firefighters Jim Daughenbaugh, Mark Soppe, and Clint Evans, who had pulled a 2 1/2 hose line.
They stopped the fire spread at the house and with the help of the next crews in, brought the intense fire under control. It would take a couple more hours to dig out and extinguish all the hot spots.
Four Engine/ or Pumpers were on scene and an ambulance for rehab.
Water was shuttled in with the departments two tankers as well as mutual aid from North Boone Fire #3 with their 2 tankers.
Luckily no one was injured.
The family was also able to save personal vehicles, a camper, and a tractor from the burning buildings before firefighters arrived, but a combine and wagons were lost to the fire.
Fire investigators believe the cause of the fire was burning embers that might not have been totally extinguished that the resident had been burning earlier that day.
