JACKSONVILLE-- A two-alarm fire broke out in the Regency section of Jacksonville on Saturday, April 2, 2005 momentarily trapping a Jacksonville firefighter.
Units from the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to a report of an apartment fire at the Oaks Apartments on Monument Road and found heavy fire showing from the roof of a three story structure upon arrival. First arriving Engine 30 quickly extended a hose line into the structure to perform an interior attack.
Not only were Jacksonville Firefighters fighting fire in multiple rooms of the structure, they were fighting a steady 25mph wind that was fueling the fire.
While fighting the fire on the third floor, the roof collapsed, trapping a Jacksonville Firefighter. Firefighters on the fire floor quickly went to the area of the trapped firefighter and extricated him from the collapse rubble. He was uninjured and remained on scene.
This was the third multiple alarm fire faced by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department in the past two weeks. On March 20th, Jacksonville Firefighters pulled six residents from a burning apartment structure. On March 31st, a pair of two story Queen Victorian style houses were completely destroyed and three others severely damaged in a three alarm blaze.
