At 4:53 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 27, Colleton County, S.C. Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a house fire. The fire was located in an area without hydrants on Hiers Corner Road in Walterboro, S.C. Engine 2601 arrived six minutes following the alarm to find a well involved, single family dwelling with fire visible through the roof at the rear of the building. Engine 101 arrived a short time later. Two additional stations also were assigned to the call.
Firefighters made the initial interior attack through the front door. The majority of the fire was confined to an addition. However, fire had extended into the attic and two bedrooms of the original structure. Water supply was accomplished with the use of three tankers pumping truck to truck. No one was at home at the time of the alarm.
Firefighters had the incident under control within 20 minutes. Fire units were on the scene for 2-and-a-half hours. No injuries were reported.
Engine 2601, Engine 101, Engine 1901, Tanker 103, Tanker 1904, Tanker 2402, Medic 27, Medic 1 and Battalion 1 responded to the fire. Battalion Chief Rich Ellis served as the incident commander.
