Shortly before midnight on September 24, 2006, Engine 8 was dispatched to 7th and Atlantic Ave for a motor vehicle accident. While enroute County Radio informed Engine 8 the box was being upgraded to a Rescue Assignment. Police had arrived on location to find a vehicle in to a construction hole. Rescue 1 and Battalion 1 were added to the assignment.
Engine 8 arrived and reported a vehicle in a construction ditch, approx. 15 feet deep, on its side, with occupants trapped. Rescue 1 arrived and went to work with the tools. Squad 7 was added to the assingment as well.
Crews worked to stabalize the vehicle and allow EMS to make patient contact. Crews went to work removing the passanger side door, as well as the roof. Crews then secured the pt. to a backboard and extricated him from the wreckage.
BLS and ALS worked on the pt. and transported him to the near by Trauma Unit in the City. Police confirmed reports that there were no other vehicles involved in the crash.
