Shortly after 5 a.m. on September 1, 2006 Camden County NJ fire fighters were dispatched to the Fountainview Village Apartments off Little Gloucester Road in the Blackwood section of Gloucester Township for a reported apartment fire.
The first in Units from the Blackwood Fire Company, Station 84 reported that they had heavy fire showing through the roof of a large 100 x 1000, four story garden style apartments. They requested the 2nd alarm which was quickly followed by the 3rd, 4th and 5th alarms bringing numerous Companies from around Camden County and also Units from Gloucester County NJ.
Ladder Pipes were setup to battle the blaze that was through the roof as an aggressive interior attack was made on the exposure Units. Fire fighters were able to pull ceilings and stop the spread of the fire. Over a dozen Units were damaged or received smoke and water damage. All the residents were safely evacuated and no serious injuries were reported. Fire fighters were able to rescue one trapped pet dog from one of the smoke filled Units.
The fire was placed Under Control two hours later as fire fighters remained on the scene overhauling. This was the second major blaze at this huge apartment complex in more than one year. The fire is under investigation by the Camden County Fire Marshal's Office.
