In Catoosa County in Georgia on September 9, 2006 at 5:00 pm. Several 9-1-1 callers reported an out of control brush fire that was burning 3 cars and moving very quickly toward some houses in the 4300 block of Three Notch Road. Ringgold/Catoosa County Station 1, Catoosa County Station 6 and Fort Oglethorpe Station 8 were immediately dispatched to the area of the fire. Within just a few minutes Catoosa County Engines 1 and 13 were on the scene, they reported a fast moving fire that was about two acres. Firefighters also reported three vehicles on fire, on of them was a Chevy s-10 and the front of it was heavily involved. The fire was also said to be quickly traveling toward two houses and several other buildings.
Firefighters quickly pulled an inch and ¾ hose line and started extinguishing the vehicles while other firefighters started pulling and additional inch and ¾ hose line toward the brush fire. Within minutes, additional firefighters with engine 6, engine 8 and tanker 11 arrived on the scene. Engine 8 set up on the opposite side of the fire and pulled a 2and ½ inch hose line toward the field. Two additional inch and ¾ hose line were connected to a gated Y off of that supply line. Within just a few minutes, it was fairly obvious that the firefighters had quickly gotten control of the fire.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the entire blaze within about 45 minutes. A crew with Georgia Forestry arrived on the scene just as crews were finishing dowsing the fire. The forestry workers did unload their tractor to create a break all the way around were the fire was, just in case it rekindled. Witnesses said the exhaust from a four wheeler may have started the fire, but officials are still investigating. Luckily there were no reports of any injuries.
