On August 31, 2006 at approximately 1030pm the St. Charles City Fire Department and a mutual aid ladder company from Pattonville were dispatched to a commercial structure fire on Main Street in Historic area of the city.
Upon arrival of the first due company about 2 minutes later found heavy smoke showing from the building. The building was a restaurant/bar and it was reported that the fire was in the kitchen at the rear of the building.
The second due engine company requested a second alarm on their arrival. The fire was knocked down on the initial attack using two hand lines.Extensive overhaul was required. During rehab of the crews the attic rekindled sending members back into action.
The building is 100+ in age. The owner of the bar had a collection of beer Steins which represented nearly every stein that Anheuser Bush has produced on display in the building. The collection was saved from the fire and removed by firefighters and bar employees with minimal damage mostly from smoke.
